The Paul Hamlyn Foundation is calling for applications for a Teacher Development Fund to support teachers developing arts-based approaches that create equitable classrooms where all children can learn and grow.

  • They envision a more equitable school system where high-quality arts-based learning is a core part of every child’s education. They believe that arts-based teaching and learning can add value and help schools achieve their aspirations for their students. The fund achieves this by:
    • We focus on students who experience systemic inequalities and support them to access and thrive in their learning.
    • We support arts organizations and schools to exchange and strengthen expertise through equal partnerships.
    • Recognizing teachers is critical to student outcomes.
    • Create high-quality, inspiring professional learning for teachers.
    • Empowering teachers and artist practitioners to learn and work together in the classroom.
    • Build a body of evidence and practice and understand how your work improves equity for students. and
    • Create long-term sustainable change in teaching and learning in schools.

funds information

  • Amount: Up to £165,000 per application
  • Duration: The project must last for two years.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Primary applicants may be elementary schools or arts and cultural organizations.
    • Every application requires a solid partnership.
    • Each partnership must include at least one arts and cultural organization.
    • A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 schools must participate in each project, regardless of whether the main applicant is an arts and cultural organization or a school.
    • Each participating school must commit a minimum of two teachers and one senior leader to the project, but flexibility may be offered to smaller rural schools.
    • Arts organizations can be charities, community groups, social enterprises and not-for-profit businesses operating in the arts and culture sector.
    • Participating schools may be mainstream, SEND or alternative provision settings targeting primary school pupils.
    • Projects may involve teachers in nursery and reception classes in primary schools.
    • All schools must operate in the state sector.
