PhD positions on base models: The University of Amsterdam offers two PhD positions for high-impact research in artificial intelligence on embodied base models. The goal of these positions is to enable an autonomous robot to operate in an open world, with a focus on multimodal perception and its robustness to sensory and semantic changes between training and operational conditions.

Two doctoral positions on Embodied Foundation Models

Designation: PhD student

Research area: Embodied foundation models, deep machine learning, computer vision

Location: University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Artificial intelligence, (applied) mathematics/physics, computer science, engineering or a related field
  • Solid knowledge/experience in machine learning and computer vision; knowledge of robotics is an advantage
  • Knowledge of statistics, analysis, linear algebra and programming (preferably in Python)
  • Motivated, independent, creative, with excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Previous publications in relevant conferences or journals on machine learning or computer vision are an advantage

Job description:
The selected candidates are responsible for:

  • Development of new methods for deep learning, computer vision and multimodal learning based on embodied foundation models
  • Active collaboration in the OpenBots Lab and participation in its demonstrators
  • Regular internal presentation of progress at international conferences and workshops
  • Participation in teaching and completion of a doctorate within the regular employment period of four years
