:Postdoc position in Environmental TEM: The Georg-August University of Göttingen, Institute of Materials Physics, offers an excellent opportunity for a postdoc researcher in the field of environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM). This role involves cutting-edge research with the goal of revolutionizing the understanding of catalytic processes at the atomic level, with a particular focus on the electrochemical water splitting interface.

Postdoc position in environmental transmission electron microscopy

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow

Research area: Environmental transmission electron microscopy with a focus on catalytic processes and electrochemical water splitting mechanisms.

Location: Göttingen, Lower Saxony, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Physics, materials science or closely related fields.
  • Doctorate with specialization in electron microscopy or catalysis.
  • Professional experience in operating a transmission electron microscope.
  • Strong motivation for the further development of in situ electron microscopy and the investigation of materials in nonequilibrium states.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Teamwork and self-motivation to achieve project goals.
Preferred experience:
  • Experience or interest in quantitative TEM image simulation.
  • Experience with in situ or ETEM experiments.

Job description:

The appointed candidate will work in a dynamic team of young scientists using various in situ TEM techniques. The main goal is to correlate information on the atomic structure of active states of oxide catalysts with measurements of reaction products in oxygen evolution reactions. Tasks include:

  • Setting up a local mass spectrometry probe in a differentially pumped ETEM system.
  • Measurement of the chemical environment of samples and reaction products formed during oxygen evolution electrocatalysis.
  • Application of high-resolution and analytical TEM techniques such as HRTEM, STEM, EELS or holography.
  • Collaborate with project partners to advance research goals.
