PhD research in synchrotron methods: The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Uppsala University, offers a prestigious fellowship for a doctoral student (PhD) focusing on multimodal characterization of magnetic nanomaterials using X-ray and ferromagnetic resonance. PhD research and innovation in synchrotron methods and applications

Designation: Doctoral student (PhD)

Research area: The position is located in the Department of Engineering with specialization in Solid State Physics at the Department of Solid State Physics, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, Uppsala University. The research focus is on the characterization of nanomaterials and nanocompounds for applications in energy, environment, life sciences and functional materials such as batteries and environmental applications using porous materials.

Location: Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, materials science, physics or a related field
  • Basic knowledge and skills in X-ray scattering
  • Fulfillment of the mobility rule of the MSCA COFUND programme, i.e. stay in Sweden not longer than 12 months during the specified period
  • Good knowledge of English (at least level B2)
  • Knowledge or experience in areas such as programming with Python, data analysis with Jupyter notebooks, SAXS, magnetic materials, electrochemical testing of batteries or gas sorption is an advantage

Job description:
The main task of the PhD student is to conduct research studies, participate in the PRISMAS project, attend PhD courses and possibly undertake teaching and departmental duties not exceeding 20%. The position also includes independent implementation of projects within the specified field, collaboration with other PhD students and researchers, conducting experiments, characterizing materials on the fly, attending international conferences and attending specialized courses and trainings.
