Fully funded PhD fellowship in fuel cell gas turbine: The Department of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology offers a fully funded PhD fellowship in the field of modelling the concept of a solid oxide fuel cell gas turbine (SOFC-GT) for aviation. This fellowship is part of the EU funded project HYLENA (HYdrogen eLectrical Engine Novel Architecture), which aims to investigate, develop and optimise a breakthrough hydrogen-powered electric aircraft propulsion concept.

Fully funded PhD fellowship to model the concept of a solid oxide fuel cell gas turbine (SOFC-GT) for aviation

Title: Doctoral student

Research area: Modelling and simulation of aerospace/energy and propulsion systems

Location: Delft University of Technology, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Sound knowledge of modelling and simulation of aerospace/energy and propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of computer-aided tools and software for performance evaluation
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills and communication skills
  • Knowledge of English at a certain level to ensure effective communication and interaction

Job description:
The successful candidate will focus on modelling off-design performance and hybridisation strategies for the SOFC-GT concept. This research aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of aircraft systems through advanced simulation and dynamic modelling. Main tasks include developing and optimising hybridisation strategies, modelling transient behaviour, evaluating aircraft performance during cruise and off-design conditions and proposing solutions to improve transient performance.

How to apply:
Interested candidates can apply by submitting their motivation letters and CV via the online application portal before the application deadline.

Deadline for applications: September 6, 2024

For further information about the position, interested persons can contact Dr. Lindert van Biert (l.vanbiert@tudelft.nl) or Prof. Arvind Gangoli Rao (a.gangolirao@tudelft.nl).

This scholarship offers a unique opportunity to work on a groundbreaking engine concept for CO2-neutral aviation and to contribute to the further development of sustainable aerospace technology.
