PhD Fellowship in Analytical Chemistry:
The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), in collaboration with the University of Basel, is offering a fully funded PhD fellowship in Analytical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics. This fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated multidisciplinary scientist to contribute to the research and development of novel treatments against neglected tropical diseases.

Designation: PhD position in Analytical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics

Research area:
The selected candidate will be involved in the investigation and preclinical studies of potential treatments for schistosomiasis and other neglected tropical diseases, with a focus on analytical chemistry and pharmacokinetics.

Location:
Allschwil, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Chemistry, pharmacy, biology or related fields
  • Knowledge and practical experience in LC-MS/MS and analytical method development
  • Interest in parasitological research and work with rodents
  • Excellent laboratory skills
  • Strong communication skills in English (French and/or German are an advantage)
  • High level of organization, self-motivation and enthusiasm for a multidisciplinary working environment

Job description:
The tasks of a doctoral student include:

  • Development of a sensitive, selective and fast LC-MS/MS method for drug analysis
  • Conducting pharmacokinetic studies with different doses and treatment regimens in mice, humanized mice and hamsters
  • Support in pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modelling
  • Conducting combination chemotherapy trials with the lead candidate and other antischistosome drugs
