It works with national and international partners to support the recovery and resilience of Syrian refugees and Jordanian host populations by providing early childhood care and development (ECCD) and integrated projects including education, child protection, gender-based violence, SRHR, youth economic empowerment and women’s empowerment services in both host communities and refugee camps.

ABOUT THE COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA TEAM

The Communications Team is one of the support units under the leadership of the Country Director. The Communications Team is responsible for Plan International’s image and for building a positive relationship between Plan International and its beneficiaries, partners, donors and the public. Communication can be done using different methods and tools, such as face-to-face, traditional mass media (radio, television and print), and online media channels and campaigns. Communication is not just focused on one event, but is an ongoing process that helps foster good working relationships with partners, a larger advocacy platform and brand building for Plan International.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Communications Assistant role is a unique opportunity for candidates to learn how to work effectively as a member of a diverse team, better understand the internal workings of Plan International, and develop their communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

The role is suitable for an ambitious, creative individual with some experience of working in a busy environment. This position will support the Communications and Media Coordinator and work closely to develop and maintain an effective system of collaboration with project coordinators and officers, technical units, programme department heads and frontline staff.

The candidate must be a key member of the communications team and play an active role in promoting positive images of young people, with a focus on girls, supporting them to make their voices heard and contributing to the implementation of the influence, communications and media strategies to achieve its objectives within Plan International’s country strategy.

The Communications Assistant will guide and support Plan International’s implementing partners to design and develop communications and media content that is compatible with Plan International’s overall communications strategies and policies. The unit will provide capacity building, guidance and follow-up to partners, including Community Based Organizations (CBOs), in the development and implementation of communications tools and procedures that provide progress-based information reflecting project performance and results. In addition, it will ensure high-quality communications for Plan International’s individual projects and programs in accordance with donor standards and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support us in implementing Plan International’s communication strategy and work plans.
  • With support from manager, create and distribute comprehensive social media toolkits to partners and others in support of major Plan International events, campaigns and other initiatives.
  • Participate in planning, monitoring and reporting communications activities.
  • Support the development and dissemination of print and visual communication materials.
  • Support in the creation and design of promotional and visibility items.
  • Regular on-site visits to collect evidence (photos, videos (mobile phone), stories, statements).
  • Write press releases, newsletters, opinion pieces and success stories in Arabic and English.
  • Content drafts for Plan International’s internal and external communications products.
  • Create and manage the content of the Plan International Jordan website.
  • Design and create high-quality and engaging social media content.
  • Manage the media monitoring process and develop regular media reports.
  • Support Plan International’s public campaigns and events.
  • Cover Plan International events live on social media using multimedia (e.g. live tweeting, creating social media graphics from templates, producing live video clips, producing Facebook Live broadcasts, etc.).
  • Provides input for the preparation of attractive designs and production of publications and audiovisual materials for the Plan’s activities.
  • Work with your manager and colleagues to set and achieve appropriate audience engagement goals.
  • Support public outreach and community mobilization activities.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for Plan International events.
  • Interact with followers, respond to comments, and manage social media interactions.
  • Think of ideas for social media campaigns.
  • Work with departments to create fact sheets and support the design process.
  • Interviews with different partners, participants, staff, volunteers, etc. to write stories for communication purposes.
  • Identify and collaborate with influencers, partners and other brand ambassadors to increase brand visibility.
  • Completion of additional tasks as instructed by the supervisor.

  • Apply your knowledge of planning programs and approaches to identify improvements.
  • Understanding of Plan International’s policies and regulations.
  • Provide a safe environment for children and young people.
  • Identify risks or problems that could affect communication production.
  • Ability to think strategically, identify programs, and persuade colleagues of communications and media opportunities that plan should exploit.
  • High level of ability to solve a wide range of challenges related to communications and media initiatives.
  • Management and advice on communication and media activities.

Child protection, gender equality and inclusion

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies on child and youth protection and gender equality and inclusion are fully implemented in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy, including relevant implementation standards and guidelines applicable to their area of ​​responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that staff and partners are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

  • A university degree in relevant fields and subjects.
  • Preferably at least 1-2 years of experience in communications, branding or campaigns.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
  • Proven writing skills (writing reports, articles, stories and press releases)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines and targets.
  • An open communicator and team player.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the local context and interaction with local development actors and communities.
  • Understanding and commitment to promoting gender equality, child protection and the inclusion of the most vulnerable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in social media management.
  • Experience with NGO \ INGO.
  • Experience in planning and conducting events/training courses/workshops.
  • Experience working with children, women and young people.
