Horticulture New Zealand and the Horticentre Trust offer scholarships to students who have a special interest in the fruit and/or vegetable industries and are studying to gain a Bachelor’s degree.

  • The $1,500 value includes flight accommodations and conference registration.
  • There are three Horticentre Trust undergraduate scholarships worth $4,500 each, awarded to the top three applicants.
  • This scholarship will allow the successful applicant to attend the 2025 Horticultural Conference worth $1,500 (including flights, lodging and conference registration costs) and will also provide the successful applicant with $3,000 cash to support research.

geographic focus

  • Nine of these will be awarded to applicants from each of New Zealand’s growth regions as follows (one applicant will be selected from each region):
    • norland
    • Auckland/Waikato
    • Bay of Plenty
    • Tyra Whitty Gisborne
    • Hawke’s Bay
    • lower north island
    • Tasman (including Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast)
    • Canterbury
    • Otago and Southland

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be a high school student studying to obtain a bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
  • For regional scholarships, applicants must have completed three years of secondary education or have been gainfully employed for one year in the region to which they are applying. Evidence of this may be requested during the selection process.
  • The applicant demonstrates intent to support the New Zealand fruit and vegetable industry following research.

Application Requirements

  • Successful applicants for an undergraduate scholarship must:
    • You can attend the horticulture conference scheduled to be held in August 2025.
    • Complete up to 5 hours of industry service (e.g. high school or community visit).
    • Prepare a short video report on your academic and career development during the 2025 school year.
