Braybrook Community Engagement Artist Residency Program (Australia)

The Braybrook Community Engagement Artist Residency is developed in conjunction with the Braybrook community and is open to artists of all genres and mediums who can deliver an art project that celebrates people, perspectives or the local environment.

Artists in Residence engage with the community as integral co-creators of their work and present arts engagement opportunities appropriate for a variety of ages, backgrounds, time commitments, and levels of arts experience.

Artists in Residence are expected to build deep relationships with the community while working part-time for approximately three months on creative projects. There is no requirement that applicants live or work in the City of Maribyrnong, but connections to the community and solid demonstrated experience in community arts practice will be positively evaluated. Maribyrnong Arts & Culture encourages applications from Indigenous and culturally diverse artists.

  • $10,000 artist fee and work materials (values ​​to be confirmed with selected artist)
  • Space provided at Braybrook Community Hub during residency period.

  • Marketing support for public outcomes or events that form part of your residence
  • Advice and support from arts and culture staff (where required)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Maribyrnong Arts and Culture is looking for high quality, ambitious proposals to:
    • Actively engages the Braybrook community in arts and culture.
    • Demonstrates engagement with the context of contemporary art practice.
    • We provide you with an existing practice or project that you can develop during your residency.
    • We provide artistic, cultural and social outcomes to our communities through the arts.
    • Provides opportunities for communities to create and share stories, cultures, perspectives or environments.
    • Increase the relevance and accessibility of arts and culture within Maribyrnong.

Selection criteria

  • It demonstrated a connection to Melbourne’s west.
  • A clearly articulated project that demonstrates strong community-engaged artistic practice.
  • Results that celebrate the people, perspectives or local environment of the Braybrook community.
  • Project management skills, including strong project scheduling.
  • A balanced and realistic budget.
