Hello Officer Insiders! I’m Hadley Griffin, a Product Manager on the Natural User Experiences team. I’m excited to share with you the release of our redesigned Dictation Toolbar. It features updated visuals, a more responsive user interface, and a sleek design that doesn’t get in the way of what really matters: your content!

Redesigned Dictation Toolbar

Many of you have given us feedback that the Dictation toolbar often gets in the way of your typing. We heard you! We’ve now made the toolbar smaller and moved it to the side of the screen instead of in the middle. (Don’t worry, you can still move it wherever you like on the screen!)

We also know that sometimes it can be hard to tell if your voice is being heard or if the dictation experience is working properly. To address this, we added responsive animations to the redesigned dictation toolbar to give you visual feedback that the feature is detecting your voice.

How it works

  1. Click here command button house Click the tab to launch the new Dictation toolbar in Word, Outlook, and OneNote.

  2. Start speaking and watch your words being converted to text. Also note that the toolbar provides visual feedback to indicate that it is listening to your voice.
