Latest research, AI Change Readiness E-BookWe take a deep dive into the current workforce readiness for AI-related changes and how this impacts your organization’s AI journey. Four Key Findings from the 2024 AI Transformation Readiness eBook: Engaged employees are 2.6 times more likely to say they fully support the integration of AI into their workplace and want to contribute to the success of the innovation. The study found early signs that strong employee experiences are positively related to frequent AI use. Participating employees also report more positive outcomes from AI adoption, i.e., they see more realized individual value from AI in their work. These results importantly highlight that AI innovation and employee experiences cannot be separated. The AI readiness of the workforce is determined by their previous experiences with change, which presents new opportunities for leaders. When we look at AI readiness, up to 43% of how prepared individuals are for AI can be explained by their previous experience with change. This strong relationship suggests that positive change experiences built today are the foundation for future success. In this study, we found that leaders had significantly different experiences with change compared to individual contributors across communication, technology, and measurement. For example, 86% of leaders reported that there was a good opportunity to improve their skills during the change, while only 64% of individual contributors had this experience. High-performing organizations are more prepared for the AI era in the workplace. In 2023, we wanted to understand what makes a high-performing organization (HPO). This year, we wanted to understand what these organizations are doing differently when it comes to AI transformation. Not only are employees in HPOs 90% more likely to say they fully support the integration of AI in their workplace, but they also have a better overall change experience. o HPO takes a people-centered approach to change. Compared to 64% of employees in general organizations, 96% of HPO employees reported feeling cared for and supported by the organization’s recent changes. o HPO provides better conclusions about AI vision. About half of individual contributors across all organizations say they see value in integrating AI into their work, but only 28% see AI as critical to the success of their organization. Individual contributors can see “what’s in it for me,” but struggle with “what’s in it for us.” However, for HPOs, individual contributors see more of the organization’s vision than the typical manager. o HPOs make AI tools more accessible. Employees in HPOs are more likely to use AI tools sponsored by their organization, with 48% reporting that all AI tools they use at work are provided by their organization, compared to just 26% in typical organizations. HPO employees are also more likely to report that they understand where AI can be integrated into their work (87% in HPOs compared to 67% in typical organizations). This shows the value of role-specific experimentation to increase the impact of AI in organizations. A successful AI transition means figuring out where people are in their AI journey. By understanding current engagement levels, past experience with change initiatives within the organization, employees’ sense of AI optimism and AI readiness in the workplace, five different AI transformation profiles have been identified. From enthusiastic multipliers to reluctant change pessimists, leaders and HR need to understand where people are in their AI journey as well as their work experience to amplify AI transformation. read AI Change Readiness E-Book Dive deeper into case studies on what it takes to successfully lead your organization into the AI era, how to launch your transformation using experimentation and change agility, and how Microsoft teams are building community and support around AI.
