Upcoming Changes to Instance Size Flexibility Ratios for Reserved VM Instances for M-series: What Yo by info.odysseyx@gmail.com October 31, 2024 written by info.odysseyx@gmail.com October 31, 2024 0 comment 20 views 20 In the ever-evolving cloud computing environment, it’s important to stay informed about changes that may impact your usage and business. We’d like to let you know about some important updates related to: Azure Reserved Virtual Machine Instances (RI) For M series. We continue to offer a variety of SKUs for M-series VMs, December 6thWe will be updating the instance size flexibility ratios for this product to optimize reservation discounts within instance size flexibility groups and their SKUs. When purchasing RIs, you can choose to optimize them. Instance size flexibility Or capacity priority. When you select instance size flexibility, the RI discount is applied to all VM sizes (SKUs) within that instance size flexibility group. Discount application is based on the VM size you select when purchasing an RI, the VM size you are using, and a ratio that represents the relative space of each VM size within an instance size flexibility group. See the table below for examples of instance size flexibility groups, the SKUs they contain, and their ratios. Figure 1. Example of an instance size flexibility group. If you have reservations for M-series VMs optimized for instance size flexibility, reservation coverage may change. There will be no price change, but rate changes may change reservation utilization. Changing the instance size flexibility ratio affects the total devices/VMs covered by RI and increases or decreases RI coverage. Coverage for each VM SKU is measured by the RI normalized percentage provided in the usage file under Additional Information Properties, which can be downloaded from Cost Management (see this topic for more information). Do it here). As the RI normalization rate increases, RI coverage decreases, resulting in overruns/additional costs. As the ratio decreases, RI will handle more VMs. Before December 6thPlease review the following: SKU list Find out if your VMs are affected with updated instance size flexibility ratios. If you do not have reservations for any of the SKUs (VM sizes) listed in that list, these changes will have no effect. From December 6thStart by reviewing your RI utilization rates to understand how updated rates may affect your coverage. You can find step-by-step instructions on how to use it to review your utilization in the Azure portal. MS Learning Page. When a reservation is made Low utilization, You can run more VMs on that instance. Exchange for unused reservations You can connect to a VM family that is not covered by RI, or: Trade in unused reservations to the Azure Savings Plan for Compute To increase your savings. You can also find additional guidance using: Azure Advisor Identify additional ways to save within your environment. When a reservation is made 100% utilization, We encourage you to review our cost-saving recommendations. Azure Advisor Identify additional ways to save within your environment, such as purchasing additional RIs or planning savings. It may take up to several days for Azure Advisor recommendations to update, depending on the rate at which they are updated.
