Two Fully Funded PhD Positions: Join the Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IEE), Division of Behavioural Ecology at the University of Bern for an exciting opportunity to conduct research on “Facilitators and constraints of behavioural flexibility” in poison frogs. This project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, explores the physiological mechanisms underlying behavioural decisions in animals.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in ecology, behaviour, cognition, endocrinology, neurobiology, or related fields.
  • Strong background in evolutionary biology preferred.
  • Experience or strong interest in working with (poison) frogs, tropical environments, and/or physiological mechanisms.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Motivation to contribute to the understanding of behavioural flexibility.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in scientific research.

Job Description: The PhD students will conduct experiments with Allobates femoralis frogs in both field and lab settings. Responsibilities include data collection, analysis, publication of results, and regular participation in lab meetings and scientific conferences. Candidates should be prepared to spend up to 2 months annually at a tropical research station.
