SSMS 21 feedback by info.odysseyx@gmail.com September 4, 2024 written by info.odysseyx@gmail.com September 4, 2024 0 comment 2 views 2 Hello SSMS users! Today I am posting a short reminder to check the feedback site regularly. As I mentioned, Previous PostI’ve started a Friday Feedback series on LinkedIn. I know not everyone uses LinkedIn, and I hope that you, the SSMS users, will have a chance to give your input. Your votes and comments will help shape the direction SSMS is taking. Here are some of the most recent topics covered. Please review and vote on these ideas! If you can find the time to look at other ideas and see what resonates with you, then vote and/or comment, that’s even better. Bonus points if you share this information with your colleagues and encourage them to check out the feedback site! I also asked about one topic that didn’t have any feedback items: database maintenance. I was interested in knowing if people were using maintenance plans, third-party scripts, or custom scripts developed internally. Please share that information by commenting on this post. Pilot of SSMS If you have a pilot in SSMS, I’d be interested in understanding what capabilities you would like to see. It would be very helpful if you could provide specific scenarios or examples where a pilot could be useful in your workload. Feedback items: Integrate Copilot/ChatGPT into SQL Server Management Studio – Create SQL scripts or rewrite existing scripts… Missing features for Azure SQL DB in SSMS There are several gaps in SSMS when it comes to Azure SQL DB. UI features that are available in on-premises SQL Server are either not the same or do not exist in Azure SQL DB. Please help me understand which gaps are most impacting you! Below are some examples, but if you can’t find a feedback item for your specific scenario, please create one. It’s likely that others are having the same issue. Change the value in the Compatibility Level drop-down I completely underestimated the response regarding compatibility levels. The amount of frustration surrounding this is deep and fair. We don’t have the ability to change SSMS and SQL. use Compatibility level. However, you can provide a description in the compatibility level list. I have created a feedback item with a list of options. Please review and leave your comments. Reduce confusion with a list of database compatibility levels Extensions to SSMS The SSMS 21 release brings support for extensions. I want to let you know that there will not be a marketplace for extensions anytime soon. There are a lot of moving parts in SSMS 21, and we are doing our best to keep everything trending in the same direction, but it is tricky. For now, please be patient! However, it might be helpful to understand what existing Visual Studio extensions you would like to see in SSMS. I know of two (see links below), but for other extensions, please create a feedback item (e.g., “Add support for ZZZZ extensions in SSMS” and include the extension name). You should be able to search for it. ~ before Create new items! If you have an idea for a new extension, that’s great. That idea deserves its own (new) feedback item. As we move to a more extensible SSMS, there will be opportunities for people in the community to create new extensions (and open source them for broader collaboration).
