Seamlessly switch between your Apple devices with Handoff support for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Hello, Microsoft 365 Insiders! My name is Samer Sawaya and I am a Product Manager on the Apple Platforms Experiences team. We’re excited to announce that Handoff support is now available for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Apple devices including Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Switch seamlessly between Apple devices with Handoff support for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Handoff is an Apple feature that lets you continue working on content while switching from one Apple device to another. For example, if you’re working on a PowerPoint presentation on your iPhone and want to switch to your Mac, Handoff allows you to do so in just a few clicks.

Requirements

• You must use a supported device – You can use Handoff for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on iPad, iPhone, and Mac. Not supported on Apple Watch.

• You must use a supported app. – Install Word, Excel, or PowerPoint from the App Store and make sure your apps are up to date by signing in with the same Apple ID on multiple devices.

• You must use cloud files. – The document you want to handoff must be stored in the cloud in OneDrive or SharePoint.

How it works

1. To activate the feature, open an existing document, worksheet, or presentation on one of your Apple devices (Mac, iPhone, or iPad) and bring it near the other Apple device you want to continue working on.

2. After a few seconds, the Dock on your Mac or iPad or the switcher on your iPhone will show that the file is waiting to be delivered.

When you switch apps on your iPhone, you’ll see a Word document at the bottom of the screen that you can select from your other device.

3. Tap the app to open the file on your second device.

Word displays an indicator that the document is ready to be delivered to the dock (in this case, the iPad).
