• Designation: Scientist (m/f/d) in Evolutionary Genomics of Heat Tolerance in Algae
• Research area: Evolutionary genomics of algal heat tolerance with a focus on the macroalga Fucus vesiculosus
• Location: GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany
• Qualification:
• PhD/Doctoral degree in Biology or Life Sciences
• Strong bioinformatics skills or knowledge in thermal tolerance modelling with peer-reviewed publications
• Strong statistical skills with R
• Desirable: Experience in molecular biology laboratory, experience in genome/transcriptome assembly, experience in working with macroalgae, experience in experimental breeding and local adaptation research, driving license
• Job description:
• Develop a high-quality F. vesiculosus genome at the chromosome level
• Conducting selection experiments in collaboration with the Experimental Ecology team
• Investigation of genomic selection targets in heat-resistant genotypes
• Model of heat survival of F. vesiculosus along its distribution range under different climate change scenarios
• Promoting the establishment of an independent research profile
