About this role

The Security Associate is an integral part of the Security and Technology team at Access Now. Your role is to support the organization’s mission to protect our people from various security threats and risks arising from working at the intersection of human rights and technology. This position offers a dynamic work environment supporting a diverse team of over 130 people in over 35 countries.

The Security Associate works with team members across all areas and reports to the Global Risk & Operations Manager.

What you will do

• Documentation: Assist us in the creation and maintenance of important documents, including country reports, newsletters, risk analysis tables, briefing documents, emergency protocols and other safety-related policies or processes.
• Risk assessments: Participate in and support the development of comprehensive risk assessments for office locations, country-specific situations or individual employees.
• Event security: Provide logistical support for employee travel and event participation, including RightsCon, while addressing travel-related risks and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Employee support: Assist the Security and Technology team with any other projects designed to meet the security needs of the organization, such as developing training or presentations, procuring services, network development, or other consulting that may be required.
• Helps implement the annual RightsCon summit series worldwide
• Completes other assigned tasks

What you will do

• A strong interest in international human rights and familiarity with Access Now’s mission
• Involvement in international relations or security studies, either academically or through relevant professional experience or other demonstrated enthusiasm for security operations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
• Cultural competence and sensitivity as well as the ability to communicate and network effectively with Access Now’s globally distributed team members
• Intuitive and empathetic in working with team members and managers
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Ability to synthesize and present data for interpretation and action
• Attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and deadlines
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and remotely
• Fluent English is required. Spanish, Arabic, French or any other language is very welcome

The details

Location

This is a full-time position, preferably in Africa, Latin America and Europe (Belgium, Germany, UK). The successful candidate must have the right to work in the location where they will be based. Currently, most Access Now team members work in hybrid offices, i.e. they combine working from home with the temporary use of offices and/or coworking spaces.

Remuneration

Access Now offers competitive compensation and benefits packages based on locations and regions worldwide. Location-specific examples of the initial placement within the salary range for this role include:

• €3,939.92–€4,826.33 gross per month (Belgium)
• USD 2,610.90–3,220.65 gross per month (Costa Rica)
• 4,577.00–5,607.00 EUR gross per month (Germany)
• 1,850.00–2,300 USD gross per month (Kenya)
• 4,557.00–5,924.00 USD gross monthly (USA)
