RFA: Heritage Documentation Training Grant Program

The program is designed to empower individuals with new skills to preserve and promote cultural heritage, as well as to build capacity and adopt digital documentation technologies within the cultural heritage community.

Their goal is to disseminate best practices and reliable methodologies for capturing and processing 3D heritage data, enabling practitioners in the field to obtain accurate data sets for a variety of applications.

Recipients are encouraged to use these acquired skills to engage with their local communities and professional networks to solve practical conservation and restoration problems or to raise awareness of local heritage.

How does it work?

• Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for competitive positions in the training cohort.
• Applications will be reviewed and evaluated based on the criteria listed below.
• Ten applicants will be selected as beneficiaries to join the training cohort and receive free training and support.
• The cohort will participate in three weeks of virtual training sessions led by staff from CyArk’s field capture and processing team.
• Grantees will apply their learnings to case study projects using the resulting data distributed through Open Heritage.

Eligibility Criteria

• This opportunity is open to individuals worldwide who wish to improve their existing digital skills or acquire new skills in documenting digital heritage.
• Due to the nature and limitations of the program, there are some practical prerequisites. Recipients must be fluent in English, have a stable internet connection to attend all workshop sessions, and have access to a camera with manual controls, interchangeable lenses, and a computer to complete exercises.
• They encourage individuals of all skill levels to apply.

Selection criteria

• The selection process for this program is based on specific criteria, each of which has a different weight in the evaluation.
  • Demonstrated passion for heritage (30%): Applicants who demonstrate a genuine and profound passion for cultural heritage and historic preservation will receive strong consideration. This passion must reflect a deep awareness of the importance of heritage.
  • Basic photography or 3D modeling knowledge (20%): Although not required, applicants with a basic understanding of photography concepts or prior experience with 3D modeling will have an advantage as this knowledge will help facilitate learning.
  • Potential Application (50%): Preference will be given to applicants who can clearly demonstrate how the skills acquired during the program will be applied in a practical way within the community or relevant context. In particular, we will focus on areas where these skills are in high demand.
