Today we are announcing a public preview. On-demand capacity reservations For Azure virtual machines on Azure in the China cloud. You can now manage and reserve capacity with guaranteed SLAs for any VM size available in Azure on China Cloud. This feature is not yet available in North China and East China regions.

As part of our ongoing effort to expand our global reach and provide our customers with the benefits of on-demand capacity reservations, we have been working hard for several months to bring this capability to Azure in the China cloud.

On-demand capacity reservations can be leveraged in the following scenarios for cloud and more:

  • Business-critical applications – Use on-demand capacity reservations to protect capacity (e.g. when VMs are taken offline to perform updates).
  • Disaster recovery (DR) — Setting aside computing capacity to ensure smooth recovery in the event of a natural disaster. Compute capacity can be repurposed to run other workloads whenever DR is not in effect.
  • Special Events – Securing capacity in advance provides confidence that your business can handle additional demand.

This feature is available in clients such as Powershell, CLI, REST API, as well as Azure in China Cloud through the portal.

Support for China North and China East and integration with Azure Site Recovery with on-demand capacity reservations for the cloud will be available in a later release.
