ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: The current hurricane season is forecast to be above normal, with 17 to 25 named storms expected (winds of 39 mph or greater). Of these, 8 to 13 are expected to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or greater), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5 with winds of 111 mph or greater). Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the southern Caribbean on Monday, July 1, as a Category 4 hurricane, severely impacting Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tobago. Beryl continued up the Caribbean chain, making landfall in Jamaica on July 3 as a strong Category 4 hurricane and in the Cayman Islands on July 4 as a Category 3 hurricane. Beryl has left a trail of devastation on the affected islands. Lethal winds, heavy rains and powerful storm surges have damaged infrastructure and brought the transport, agriculture, tourism, health and telecommunications sectors to a standstill in the affected countries. At this level, work is performed under minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to produce organized and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard operating procedures to other staff and colleagues in their work area. JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide effective technical support and analysis for policy and programme activities that effectively address food assistance needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not comprehensive or exhaustive): Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the specific work area to support alignment with broader program policies and guidelines. Provide specialised project management support for specific and/or defined programmes to ensure that the various activities are carried out within the defined objectives and in accordance with WFP policies and procedures. Within your specific area of responsibility, prepare a range of reports and data analyses (e.g., food assistance needs, resource utilization, program status, performance) and highlight trends/issues to ensure results meet corporate standards and quality control. Ensure and/or conduct accurate and timely data recording within the specific technical work area (e.g., assistance programs, food safety, and vulnerability assessments) and ensure consistency of information presented to stakeholders. Work with internal contacts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing project activities. Coordinate and communicate with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to conduct accurate food security analyses and ensure efficient delivery of food assistance. Support capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government in relevant technical areas. Act as the point of contact for resolving a range of operational issues and problems within a specific technical area of responsibility. Supervise and/or review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance to contribute to the achievement of objectives according to agreed standards and deadlines. Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure that WFP can respond quickly and deploy needed resources in affected areas when a crisis occurs. Any other assigned tasks. Has observed or assisted in political discussions. STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Completion of secondary school. A post-secondary certificate in the relevant functional area. Experience: Six years of relevant experience. Language: Fluent oral and written communication in the UN language used at the duty station and in the language of the duty station, if different.
