Postdoctoral Fellow – Seifert: An exciting opportunity for a temporary postdoctoral fellow is available in collaboration with the NSF BII: Viral Emergence Research Institute. This position is located in the Laboratory for Molecular Ecology of Zoonotic and Animal Pathogens at the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health under the direction of Dr. Stephanie N. Seifert.

Suitability/Qualifications:

• Recently acquired Ph.D. in Computational biology, bioinformatics, biology, virology, microbiology, genetics or a related field
• Knowledge of genomic and transcriptomic data analysis tools such as R and Python
• Proven experience in modelling complex biological systems and integrating multiomic data
• Strong communication skills and a proven track record of scientific publications
• Ability to conduct independent research and manage projects effectively
• Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate
• Experience or strong interest in virology and zoonoses

Job description:
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for advancing research projects focused on modeling the bat virome and understanding virus-host compatibility. This role will involve analyzing genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data from multiple sources, including experimental data from the laboratory. The role will require involvement in developing machine learning models to predict host-virus compatibility using R and/or Python. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team and actively participate in laboratory meetings and departmental seminars. There will be an opportunity to attend conferences and collaborative meetings.
