Postdoctoral fellow: Join the Immunology group at Moredun Research Institute and work with Moredun Scientific. The role involves the development and evaluation of a Streptococcus suis vaccine candidate, with a focus on understanding the antibody response in immunized pigs to improve vaccine protection.

Eligibility/Qualification:

• Promotion in Immunology, microbiology or biochemistry
• Knowledge of biochemistry, immunochemistry and the analysis of antibody reactions in mammals
• Understanding mammalian immunology and cellular immunology
• Ability to design, perform and troubleshoot antibody function tests in bacterial infection control

Job description:
The post holder will characterise the antibody response in immunised pigs to understand the mechanisms of vaccine protection. The role will include testing for the induction of bactericidal antibodies after vaccination and, if necessary, investigating alternative hypotheses such as the role of macrophages, T cells or polymorphonuclear cells in the control of S. suis infection.
