Postdoctoral Fellow – Electric Double Layer: AMOLF is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral fellow to join a cross-functional team studying the electric double layer at metal electrodes. This position focuses on improving the understanding of sustainable energy storage and conversion processes at the nanoscale using state-of-the-art techniques.

Location:
Science Park, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in experimental Physics or physical chemistry
  • Experimental experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Investigation of the solid-water interface at the molecular level
  • In-situ/operando atomic force microscopy
  • Ultrafast spectroscopy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English

Job description:
The postdoctoral fellow will focus on the following topics:

  • Development of in-situ and operando characterization techniques for metal electrodes
  • Investigation of hydrogen bond structures and molecular dynamics near electrode surfaces
  • By using modern nonlinear optical femtosecond vibrational spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy
  • Investigation of the dynamic distribution of ions and reactants near electrode surfaces
  • Gain insights into the electrical double layer structure to optimize electrochemical reactions for energy conversion and storage

This position is a collaboration between the ultrafast spectroscopy and 3D photovoltaics groups at AMOLF, supervised by Prof. Bakker and Prof. Alarcon-Llado. The successful candidate will work closely with other PhD students, technicians and postdocs in the Sustainable Materials area and the ChemSpec Competence Center at AMOLF.

Working conditions:

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week)
  • Initial term 2 years with possibility of extension by 1 year
  • Salary from 4,065 euros gross per month
  • Includes a range of employment benefits
  • AMOLF provides assistance with accommodation, visa applications and reimburses transport and setup costs for foreign postdocs.
