Postdoc in Molecular Geobiology: The University of Copenhagen is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join the Molecular Geobiology group at the GLOBE Institute. The role will investigate the taphonomy of environmental DNA and its association with sediments using modern microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.

GLOBE Institute, Department of Geogenetics, Copenhagen, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in Biology, physics, geology, chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience with wet laboratory methods, fluorescence microscopy, staining techniques and/or spectroscopy techniques.
  • Knowledge of atomic force microscopy is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of English and effective communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work independently in laboratory environments.

Job description:
The candidate will conduct research to understand the preservation and interaction of environmental DNA with sediments using techniques such as FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Duties will include:

  • Conducting model studies on DNA-sediment interactions.
  • Development of updated methods for DNA extraction.
  • Characterize collected sediment samples.
  • Work with a diverse team to advance interdisciplinary research.
