Postdoc in Microbiology: The University of Copenhagen invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Microbiology at the Globe Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The position will start on 1 November 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. This role will involve interdisciplinary research focusing on the interaction between microorganisms and environmental surfaces, with a particular focus on the spread of antibiotic resistance genes.

Authorization/Qualification

  • Promotion in Microbiology or related fields such as microbial ecology or biogeochemistry.
  • Experience with microbial cultivation methods and bacteria-surface interactions.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, including gene transfer experiments.
  • Competent in fluorescence microscopy and staining techniques.
  • Interest in natural environments, especially the plastisphere.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills and ability to work in a team.

Job description

  • Conduct experiments on biofilm formation on different surfaces, focusing on surfaces in aquatic environments such as plastic, wood and glass.
  • Conduct horizontal gene transfer experiments and culture microorganisms.
  • Use classical microbiological approaches alongside optical and fluorescent microscopy and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Communicate research results effectively, both independently and in a team.
