Research area: Development of advanced small-scale models for profiling gastrointestinal drug absorption.
Location: Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

• Do you have a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering or a related discipline
• Completed at least 240 credits at a university, of which 60 credits at Master’s level
• Solid knowledge or equivalent knowledge in modelling, simulation, machine learning/AI and programming
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Proven ability to conduct structured research independently

Job description:
The selected PhD student will work on the development of advanced small-scale models of the gastrointestinal tract. Research will focus on developing methods to generate absorption profiles of orally administered drugs. Key tasks include developing systems with physiologically relevant properties, incorporating humanized cells to mimic epithelial cells, and considering the microbiome in colon-simulating segments. The project will include in silico modeling, validation of systems with available in vivo data from humans, and most importantly, contributions to research studies.
