Location: Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Recently completed (or close to completing) a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Data Science, or a related discipline with a strong interest in Psychology; OR a Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field with a demonstrated interest in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience in empirical research with human participants and processing complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, R), mathematics, and statistical techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.

Job Description: As a PhD candidate, you will conduct scientific research to enhance AI systems’ capabilities in collaborative decision-making with human users. This includes:

  1. Identifying decision-making tasks where real-time user modeling can significantly enhance AI-human interaction.
  2. Developing data-driven and/or theory-based user models in relevant decision-making contexts.
  3. Conducting empirical studies to evaluate the effectiveness of these models.
  4. Publishing your findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences.

You will be based in the Human-Technology Interaction group at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences, supervised by a team with expertise in AI, human-computer interaction, and cognitive modeling.
