Abstract: The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB) in Warsaw offers a full-time PhD fellowship for a research project focusing on “Quality control of proteins in the nucleus in neurodegeneration”. This innovative project aims to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms of protein quality control in mammals, particularly in the nucleus, with a focus on the ubiquitin-proteasome system.

Full-time PhD fellowship in research on cellular proteostasis and neurodegeneration

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Biology, biochemistry or a related field
  • Solid knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience
  • Understanding important mechanisms of cellular proteostasis
  • Basic practical experience in one of the following areas: molecular biology, cell biology, fluorescence microscopy
  • Previous experience working with neurons derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) would be an advantage but is not a requirement
  • Interest in cellular proteostasis and neurodegeneration
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Willingness to learn and accept new challenges, ability to work independently, analytical thinking
  • Good interpersonal skills and a cooperative attitude

Job description:
As a doctoral student, you are responsible for:

  • Conducting experiments with cellular models (including neurons derived from iPSCs)
  • Analysis of protein transport using quantitative mass spectrometry
  • Modification of gene expression using CRISPR/Cas9-based methodology
  • Use of a variety of molecular and biochemical techniques (including the study of protein-protein interactions and modifications)
  • Collaboration with team members
  • Conducting literature research
  • Participation in laboratory meetings and activities
  • Writing publications
  • Participation in the compulsory courses of the Doctoral School
