PhD position in Evolutionary Ecology at CCMB, Hyderabad, India

PhD position in evolutionary ecology: The Evolutionary Ecology Lab at CCMB is currently seeking applicants for a five-year PhD position starting in January 2025. Join our team in investigating biodiversity patterns and processes in tropical forests with a focus on the Western and Eastern Ghats mountain ranges of peninsular India.

Research area:
Our research focuses on the origin and maintenance of biodiversity in tropical forests. We use an integrative taxonomic approach to document tropical diversity and investigate the geological, evolutionary and ecological processes that shape diversity patterns and species composition in these ecosystems.

Location: Laboratory for Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES) at CSIR-Centre for Cell and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India.

Eligibility/Qualification:
Candidates with a Master’s degree in aevery branch of sciencewho have secured at least 55% marks in General (UR)/General-EWS and 50% marks in OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third Gender and Persons with Disability (PwD) are eligible. Applicants must have a valid National Level Scholarship (JRF/SRF) or equivalent from recognized agencies.

Job description:

• Conduct research on biodiversity in tropical forests, with a focus on the Western and Eastern Ghats.
• Employ interdisciplinary approaches in ecology and evolution, including biogeography, phylogenetics, and population genetics.
• Participate in fieldwork to build natural history collections and contribute to ongoing research efforts.
