PhD Fellowship for Solid Oxide Cells: The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a PhD fellowship focusing on developing operational strategies to mitigate solid oxide cell (SOC) degradation. The successful candidate will be part of the project “Road2X”, which aims to identify degradation mechanisms in solid oxide cells and develop strategies to mitigate them.

Research area: Development of operating strategies to reduce the degradation of solid oxide cells (SOC)

Location: Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

Qualifications: Applicants must have a two-year Master’s degree or equivalent with academic experience in materials science, chemistry or related fields. Ideal candidates will have expertise in areas such as fuel cells, electrolysis, electronics/power electronics, data acquisition, material characterization or electrochemistry. Good English skills, innovation, sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently and in a team are essential qualities.

Job description:

  • Perform advanced electrochemical characterization of solid oxide cells under different operating conditions using current-voltage characteristics and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
  • Develop and update solid oxide cell test setups for advanced electrochemical characterization.
  • Test solid oxide cells under different operating conditions and analyze the effects of operating parameters on cell durability.
  • Perform microstructure characterization on tested cells and correlate any changes with electrochemical test results.
