Open Recruitment: ArtsBox Artist Residency Program (Australia)

Artsbox is a vibrant, intimate, converted shipping container studio based outside Footscray Library used for short-term artist residencies.

Featuring a small kitchenette, plumbed sink, split system air conditioning and a large table, this versatile space is suitable for a variety of art forms, including those that require a wet area. The Artsbox Artist Residency Program offers six-week residencies ideal for developing new work, testing and exploring ideas, or developing artistic practice.

• Live in a converted shipping container studio for 6 weeks.
• Artists receive a stipend of $1,000 for their fees and/or materials.
• Access to Footscray Library resources including library cards, printing and use of library meeting rooms, and assistance with connecting with community and library programs.
• Marketing support for community participation opportunities and sharing residency results

qualifying activity

• Artists are encouraged to engage in creative projects that use the Footscray Library Collection or connect with the library’s programming and community to maximize the benefits of the program for artists and the community.

Eligibility Criteria

• Artists offered a residency will:
  • Attend Artsbox at least 4 days a week for the agreed residency period. Studio access is only available during Footscray Library staff working hours.
  • Within 30 days of completion of residency, provide a written evaluation and summary of the resident, including images of the resident results, which the City of Maribyrnong may use for marketing and reporting purposes.
  • Any future activities resulting from the Artsbox Residency must acknowledge the creative development opportunities offered by the City of Maribyrnong. Successful applicants will be provided with a logo and approval details.
  • Provide at least one opportunity for the public to view or participate in the residency results.
  • Provide evidence of public liability insurance of more than $10 million.

Selection criteria

• It demonstrated a connection to Maribyrnong or Melbourne’s West.
• A residency proposal that clearly articulates clear goals and objectives for a new creative project.
• Proposals for collaboration with the local community and/or Footscray Library collections.
