OneNote’s new Sticky Notes feature for Windows receives update

A few months ago, we launched A new sticky notes experience for WindowsOneNote features make it easy to remember. Thanks to the amazing feedback you’ve given us since launch, we’re excited to announce an update.

Windows Start Menu Entry Point

We’ve made it easier to access the new Sticky Notes experience by adding a shortcut to your Start menu. Sticky Notes is now just a click away! 🚀

This shortcut will launch the OneNote app right away with the new Sticky Notes view, which is automatically added whenever you install or update the OneNote app.

A new purple-hued Sticky Notes icon with a new tag makes it easy to distinguish this shortcut from other shortcuts. The existing Microsoft Sticky Notes app A shortcut in the Start menu.

Always on top

One of the most requested features is here! You can now pin a popped note to keep it on top of other applications while multitasking or switching apps. Just click the pin icon in the top bar of a popped note and it will always be on top.

Copy note

Now you can easily copy the entire contents of a sticky note, including images and text, with just one click. Just click the ellipsis (…) menu and select Copy Note, and the entire contents will be copied to your clipboard.

1. How do I update my new Sticky Notes?
   1. The new Sticky Notes experience is a feature of the OneNote Windows app. To update it, you’ll need to update the OneNote Windows app.
2. When I click on the Start menu shortcut, an error dialog box appears. Why?
   1. If you use Intune policies on Windows at work, the new Sticky Notes features are not available and you will see an error. Contact your administrator for more information.
   2. If you are using an Office LTSC license, you cannot use the new Sticky Notes and an error will occur.
   3. If these do not apply to you but you see an error, the feature is still rolling out to your device. Wait a few months to see if your Office apps are updated.
3. Can I access Sticky Notes on my phone?
   1. Yes, Sticky Notes are available on both the OneNote mobile apps for Android and iOS.
4. How do I move my notes from Microsoft Sticky Notes to the new Sticky Notes feature in OneNote?
   1. Make sure you’re signed in to the existing Microsoft Sticky Notes app.
   2. Use the same account to sign in to OneNote on Windows.
   3. If you have multiple accounts, make sure your Sticky Notes account is set as the default account in the OneNote Windows app.
   4. Once you complete these steps, your sticky notes will automatically sync to the cloud and be accessible in a new Sticky Notes section in OneNote.
5. What happens to the existing Microsoft Sticky Notes app?
   1. The Microsoft Sticky Notes app will continue to work, but we recommend switching to the new Sticky Notes in OneNote to get the latest features and improvements.
