Hi, I’m Margie Clinton, a group product manager for the Outlook team. Since the last time I contacted you, September, We’ve been working hard to listen to and act on feedback about the new Outlook for Windows Preview. Today, millions of people use the new Outlook for Windows Preview every day to help them better connect and coordinate with their world, and we’re excited to continue our momentum on this journey.

memo: You can go back to the old Outlook experience. Just turn off the toggle and the old version will open automatically without losing any data or emails.

Support for third-party accounts in New Outlook for Windows

The initial release of this preview only supported Microsoft’s first-party accounts, whether work, school, or personal. But Outlook, like our mobile and Mac apps, is for everyone, no matter what account they use. Today, we’re starting to support Gmail accounts for people using the new Outlook for Windows preview. We’ll soon be adding support for Yahoo and iCloud, as well as the ability to connect mailboxes via IMAP. Our intention is for everyone to be able to access all their email in one place, on any Windows 10 or Windows 11 device.

Longtime Outlook for Windows users will notice improved support for third-party accounts compared to the previous client experience, which did not support Google Calendar or Contacts. People can now use their Gmail email, Google Calendar, and Contacts in the new Outlook for Windows preview. This was a popular request and is now possible with the new Outlook for Windows’ latest codebase.

To see if you can add a third-party email to your account, select: Add AccountAt the bottom of the folder window or click Account > Email Account > Settings,Enter your Gmail account and follow the on-screen instructions to verify it.

If you can’t add a Gmail account yet, please wait until it’s released to everyone worldwide. Users will be notified when the ability to add a Gmail account is available.

In addition to supporting third-party email accounts, we’ve added features designed to make writing and managing email easier and more fun. Some of them include:

We’ve made some improvements to our schedule to make sure we have time for the people and events that matter to us at work and in our lives. These include:

Of course, there are a few notable features that can help you get more organized.

What’s next?

We’re very happy with what we’ve built so far with the new Outlook for Windows, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. In addition to continuing to address your feedback and requests as they come in, we’re working on:

Requirements

  • Minimum OS version Windows 10 version 1809 (Build 17763)
  • Microsoft work or school account, personal Microsoft account (MSA), or Gmail account (supported rollout)
  • Internet connection (current)

effectiveness

These features are rolling out and will be available to all new Outlook for Windows users in the coming days and weeks.

Features are released over time to ensure smooth operation. They are released slowly to more Insiders, highlighting features you may not have. Sometimes we remove elements based on your feedback to make them even better. This is rare, but we also have the option to remove features from the product entirely, even if you, as an Insider, had the opportunity to try them out. Taking the time to iterate and roll out improvements to Preview is how we ensure the best experience.

If you’re interested in the new Outlook for Windows, you should definitely give it a try!
