New Outlook for Windows

Hello Insiders! I’m Margie Clinton, a group product manager on the Outlook team. I’m excited to announce that starting today, all Office Insiders can try out the new Outlook for Windows!

Last May, we expanded our work to create a more consistent Outlook experience across endpoints (including Windows) by releasing an early preview of the new Outlook for Windows. This new Outlook for Windows is designed to provide a modern, yet familiar Outlook experience that helps users improve their personal productivity and email organization.

Since then, we’ve received valuable feedback from Office Insiders in the Beta channel on how to create a more consistent and feature-rich experience. We’ve taken that feedback into account and incorporated the updates into this most recent release.

Starting today, members of the Office Insiders community on the Current Channel (Preview) will be able to access and explore the new Outlook for Windows as it rolls out to the community. In the coming weeks, this experience will also be available to Windows Insiders using a similar toggle within the Windows Mail app.

How it works

If you’re signed up as an Office Insider and are running a Beta Channel or Current Channel (Preview) build, all you have to do is slide. Try the new Outlook Click the toggle in the top right corner of classic Outlook for Windows and follow the on-screen instructions.

To try out the new features, click the “Try the new Outlook” toggle.

memo: You can always go back to the old Outlook experience. Just turn off the toggle and the old version will open automatically without losing any data or emails.

What’s new in Outlook for Windows?

We’ve been listening to your feedback since May, and our team has been working diligently to improve the new Windows Outlook. In addition to numerous performance improvements, we’re excited to announce the following updates:

Features that support Microsoft accounts

You can now add your personal Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Windows Live email account to the new Outlook for Windows.

Quick steps

Now you can save time with Quick Steps, which shows you personalized sorting tasks that you can use repeatedly to keep your inbox neat and organized and make it easy to find newsletters or important files.

Dynamic Calendar Column Width

You can now adjust the column widths of your calendar to customize how much space is devoted to each day of the week when viewing the details of your weekly schedule.

Simplified Ribbon Options

A new, streamlined ribbon option now offers a more refined look and feel, making it easier to navigate when sending emails.

Tips for Outlook

Now you can use the tips that let you know when new useful features are released, and you can also view the tips in the calendar board view, giving you everything you need to plan your schedule in one place.

The Tips pane (visible in Calendar Board view) provides useful suggestions for new features that the user can use.

Updates already available

The new features above build on what was already available in the preview version in early May.Click here to learn more about this) include:

• microsoft loop To keep your teams in sync across Microsoft 365 apps
• Find and attach documents using @mentions
• Intelligent support automatic notifications
• Drag and drop emails into my daily to-do list
• View the new Outlook calendar board
• Pin important emails
• Use Sweep to keep your Outlook inbox tidy.
• Shared mailboxes and folders for easy collaboration

What’s next?

Here are some features we plan to roll out to our Insider community (both enterprise and consumer customers) in the coming months:

• Supports multiple email accounts within the same app. Going forward, you’ll be able to access multiple email inboxes and calendars (both work and personal) in the same Outlook experience, just like you do today in Outlook mobile.
• Support for third-party email accounts in Outlook for Windows This includes Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.
• many Visual updates and Personalization Options You can create the email environment you want.
• Offline Support This allows you to perform tasks and access content even when you are not connected to the Internet.
• Folder Search Quick and easy access to all your emails.
• Web add-on support You can enrich your emails and calendar events with third-party apps and services like Salesforce and Zoom.
• Native ICS file type support Designed to help you easily view and manage your calendar events so you don’t miss important events.

If you are a member Windows Insiders CommunityIn the coming weeks, you’ll be able to access the new Outlook for Windows via a toggle (similar to the one you see above) in the Mail and Calendar apps on Windows.

• Minimum OS version Windows 10 version 1809 (Build 17763)
• Microsoft work or school account or personal Microsoft account (current)
• Internet connection (current)

effectiveness

These features are rolling out to Office Insiders running Outlook Beta Channel or Current Channel (Preview) version 2209 (Build 15629.20058) or later for Windows.

Features are released over time to ensure everything works smoothly. They are released slowly to a larger number of Insiders, highlighting features you may not have. Sometimes we remove elements based on your feedback to make them even better. This is rare, but we also have the option to completely remove a feature from the product, even if you, as an Insider, had the opportunity to try it out.

Known Issues

The new Outlook for Windows is still in preview, so there may be some differences.

Why can’t I see the preview toggle?

• If you are using a consumer account, it may take some time to release to the Beta Channel or Current Channel (Preview).
• Your organization hasn’t added you to the Beta Channel or Current Channel (Preview). You can ask your IT administrator if they can add you.
• If you can’t connect your Microsoft 365 work or school account to the new Outlook, contact your IT administrator.
