Apple recently announced a new way for users to create content labeled Apple Intelligence (AI). You can learn more about this feature based on the documentation Apple shared.Appleseed for ITAnd theirDevice Management Client Schema on GitHub.

We’re excited to announce that Microsoft Intune’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile App Management (MAM) controls are now updated to help you configure the availability of these new features. As detailed below, you can use Intune to customize their use in your environment as Apple Intelligence features are released in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

Our ongoing goal is to ensure that you have the right policy controls in place, regardless of your deployment model, so you can balance productivity and security in your environment. If you have any feedback on these new Intune MDM or MAM features, please let us know in the comments below!

Intune MDM controls for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices

For Apple managed supervised devices (ADE enrolled iOS/iPadOS and all macOS), Intune supports new settings for Apple Intelligence. Payload Limitations and Declaration of Math Settings. These settings require supervised devices. For personal or Bring-Your-Own (BYO) iOS/iPadOS devices, there is no control provided by MDM. For customers who want control on BYO or unsupervised devices, Intune MAM controls are supported on both managed and unmanaged devices.

For iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, Intune supports the following configuration controls starting with those Intune service releases:

Intune MDM controls for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices

For Intune MAM-protected applications running on iOS 18.1 or later, Intune controls access to new Apple Intelligence features as they are released. As of September 2024, only the Writing Tools feature will be available to MAM-protected applications. The remaining Apple Intelligence features will be available only to system applications, such as Notes or Calculator’s Math Notes, that do not support Intune MAM. You can continue to customize the behavior of data shared to MAM-protected applications, including AI-generated content, by using existing Intune MAM settings that control incoming data.

All apps that integrate the Intune App SDK versions mentioned above will manage the following Apple Intelligence features: New MAM protections are published here, including the supported App SDK versions.
