What is the Microsoft 365 Insider Program?

The Microsoft 365 Insider program (formerly Office Insider program) gives you early access to subscription features and updates, giving you an exclusive opportunity to try out the latest innovations and provide feedback. Your feedback goes directly to the product team, helping us make Microsoft 365 even better for users around the world.

How much does it cost?

There is no additional cost to become a Microsoft 365 Insider, but you will need a Microsoft 365 subscription to receive Insider updates on your devices.

Why do I need a subscription?

Microsoft 365 subscriptions provide you with the latest features on an ongoing basis. A continuous release cycle means we can get feedback faster and iterate on the service. Subscribers regularly receive new features (and updates) for Microsoft 365 apps like Excel, Word, and Outlook, depending on the update channel settings on their devices. The Microsoft 365 Insider update channel provides early access to these features.

A perpetual license for Office (such as Office 2016, Office 2019, or Office 2021) includes the features that were available when the software was released. Other than security updates, the features won’t change until you purchase the next version of Office or switch to a subscription license.

What is an “Update Channel”?

The update channel determines which Microsoft 365 updates your device receives and how often it receives the updates.

To see which Microsoft 365 update channel is configured on your device, open a Microsoft 365 app, such as Word, and then go to: file > account. The name of the update channel appears next. Which update channels are included in the Microsoft 365 Insider program?

Can I sign up by clicking on a link on this website?

Unfortunately, no. The process for setting the update channel varies depending on your Microsoft 365 license and operating system.

  • If you have Individual or family To use your Microsoft 365 subscription Participation Guidelines Depending on your operating system.

Why don’t I see the Microsoft 365 Insider channel in my Microsoft 365 apps?

If you don’t see the option to change the update channel:

  • Your subscription is managed by an administrator (e.g., the IT department at your workplace or school). In this case, you cannot change the update channel. Contact your administrator for more information.
  • There may be a perpetual (one-time purchase) version of Office. See “Why do I need a subscription?” in this FAQ.

Why aren’t features released to Microsoft 365 Insiders in my product?

We gradually enable features to make sure everything works smoothly. We sometimes highlight features on the blog that you may not have because they are in the process of being released to a larger number of Insiders. Access to certain features also depends on which Insider channel your device is enrolled in (Beta Channel or Current Channel (Preview)).
