This is the next segment in a blog series highlighting Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors who have achieved the Gold milestone, the highest level they can achieve, and have recently graduated from college. Each blog in this series will feature a different student and highlight their accomplishments, their experiences in the Student Ambassador community, and what they have been up to.

Today we meet Harshavardhan, who holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from Amity University, Kolkata, India.

Responses have been edited for clarity and length.

When did you join the Student Ambassador community?

I joined the Student Ambassador community in 2022.

What is it like to be a student ambassador?

Being a student ambassador has always been a journey of exploring, learning, connecting and growing to innovate solutions that can shape the future and redefine the way we work. It has helped me in many ways, from being a simple student to a community leader who has made a difference in society by building education, vision, innovations that solve common but life-saving medical problems, bringing together people from different fields to help each other, gaining perspectives and building a community that helps everyone build.

Through this process, I became a strong community leader, an innovator who brought together thousands of people and developed them into community leaders who would continue this process.

This is the first hackathon organized by Harshavardhan and the first hackathon held at his university.

Was there a particular experience that had a profound impact on you while you were participating in the program? And why?

Yes, there are several moments that have had a big impact on me: conducting seminars and workshops, meeting with MVPs, creating projects and participating in various initiatives.

What helped me grow a lot was organizing, managing and speaking at Azure Developer Day Kolkata, sponsored by Azure Developer Community. Sourav Ganguly and former MVP Ambarish Ganguly were there with me. It was my first time organizing a solo event on such a large scale. It helped me a lot in understanding, learning and building my skills in organizing, interacting, managing and speaking.

At a recent event at Microsoft offices in Gurugram, Harshavardhan shared how to create an AI text translator app in under an hour!

Tell me about the skills you gained as a student ambassador. How did these skills help you in your journey after graduating from college?

The best thing I learned was Azure. I got 7 certifications including AZ-102, DP-100, MCE-100, AI-900, DP-900, PL-900, AZ-900. I learned almost everything about Azure, especially Azure AI services, which helped me a lot in acquiring new cutting-edge technologies and building faster innovations with pre-built models.

These skills have helped me a lot in various hackathons and companies to build cloud solutions using rapid flow, Azure ML models and AI services. Leadership and teamwork skills have helped me a lot in becoming a great speaker, mentor and community leader. I now manage a growing community of over 1,000 members, which has led me to become a GitHub Campus Expert.

What would you like to tell students around the world about the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador Program?

I want them to know that this program is different from all the others.

  • It can go beyond regional and university boundaries. It has the ability to host and build communities anywhere.
  • Get mentoring sessions from top mentors
  • Get a sneak peek of the best tools coming soon

What advice would you give to new student ambassadors just starting out in the program?

My advice to them is that they should look beyond the program and not just join for the product. Use your Azure credits to build as much as possible, innovate, and try new things.

Take advantage of the sessions, learn from them, ask questions, interact. Finally, share your knowledge with others and find fun ways to put it into practice.

Share your favorite quote! It could be from a movie, a song, a book, or someone you know personally. Let us know why you chose it. What does it mean to you?

Never stop hustling. I chose this because I believe that we should never stop, and that we should never stop hustling because we don’t know what’s next.

It’s an inspirational saying that serves as a motto for me, it really helps me stay positive and motivated.

Tell us some interesting stories about yourself and your travels.

The best part of this journey is that I became an MLSA as a student, went through different ambassador programs, wrote articles about Azure during my internship, got certified, built a solution and won a hackathon.

During this journey, I also built my own community, delivering sessions ranging from 10 to 1000+ attendees. From virtual to offline events. I now deliver virtual sessions with MVPs globally and become a GitHub Campus Expert.
