🏫 ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

On 31st December 1998, the Government of West Bengal constituted an Expert Committee under the chairmanship of renowned scientist Ashesh Prasad Mitra to study the need and feasibility of establishing a Technical University in the State of West Bengal. The University officially started its functioning with the assumption of charge of the first Vice Chancellor on 15th January 2001, consequent upon the promulgation of WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT 2001 under the West Bengal Act XV of 2000 passed by the West Bengal Legislature. The University commenced its academic programme on 16th July 2001 as per a notification issued by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal dated 15th June 2001 by amalgamation of Technical and Management Institutions/Colleges and is now entering its eighth year of existence. The University is listed under Section 2F and also Section 12B of the UGC and is a recipient of UGC grants.
