Before we get into the technical details, let me introduce myself first. I am Ryan Bin SarwarI am a third year CSE undergraduate student at Bangladesh University of Professionals. Currently I am also Microsoft Student Ambassador (Beta).


 


Now let’s go through the steps that will help you create and host your personal portfolio using GitHub Pages. The method I’ll share here is beginner-friendly, so you don’t need any prior coding experience to follow along.


 


A Step-by-Step Guide to Hosting Your Portfolio Using GitHub Pages


 


Step 1: Create a GitHub account


To get started, you’ll need a GitHub account. If you already have an account, you can skip this step. If you don’t have an account, follow these instructions.



  • Visit GitHub Sign up using your email address.

  • Complete your profile by following the simple setup instructions provided.


Step 2: Create a new repository



  1. After logging in to GitHub, click: “+” Click the button on the top right of the screen and select “New storage”.

  2. Specify the repository name as follows: your-username.github.io (replace Your username (your actual GitHub username). This is important because GitHub recognizes this specific naming format to host your portfolio.

  3. Make sure the repository is set up. Public And check the checkbox “Add README file”.

  4. Click here for the last time “Create repository” To set up.


Step 3: Customize your README (portfolio content)


that README.md Files are where you place the content of your portfolio. GitHub Pages uses: Price reduction Using a language that structures your content makes it easy to format your text.



  1. Go to the repository you just created and click Next. README.md file.

  2. Click the pencil icon to edit the file.

  3. Now you can add your portfolio content. Here’s a basic example:

I am a 3rd year CSE undergraduate student from Bangladesh University of Professionals and a Microsoft Student Ambassador (Beta). ## About Me I have experience in cloud computing, low-code platforms and technology communities. ## Technology – Cloud Computing – GitHub and Git – Microsoft Power Platform ## Contact You can reach me at: [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/username) or [GitHub](https://github.com/username).

 


After writing your content, click “Apply Changes” to save it.


 


Step 4: Enable GitHub Pages


Next, you’ll need to enable GitHub Pages to host your portfolio.



  1. Click in the repository setting uppermost.

  2. Scroll down GitHub Pages part time job.

  3. Below sourceChoose basic Click (or Master) in the drop-down menu get.

  4. When you enable GitHub Pages, you will receive a live URL for your portfolio, which will have the following format: https://your-username.github.io/.


 


Step 5: (Optional) Customize your portfolio using a template


To make your portfolio look more attractive, choose a theme from GitHub Collections.



  1. Visit GitHub Pages Theme Select the theme you want.

  2. Go back again setting Go to the repository and scroll down. GitHub Pages part time job.

  3. Click here “Choose a theme”Select the theme you want and click to apply. “Choose a theme”.

  4. After selecting, commit your changes to apply the theme to your portfolio.
