HLK Refresh Release for Windows 11 HLK 24H2 and Windows Server 2025

We are excited to announce that Microsoft will be releasing updated HLKs for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 in October.

This HLK release includes fixes for test errors that help reduce triage times for known test issues while maintaining high overall test quality. The refreshed version of HLK supersedes the RTM version available at HLK Download Site. Partners can submit to WHCP using the RTM version of the HLK for Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 or a refreshed HLK, provided they are able to achieve a passing result (waiver granted).

Bugs fixed in a refreshed version are expected to expire 90 days after the release of the refreshed HLK. As we transition to this servicing model that maintains overall test quality and reduces reliance on bugs, we recognize that a refreshed HLK may not cover all scenarios. If bugs remain relevant after using a refreshed HLK, please contact CSS for assistance. Please review the FAQ for more information.

  • What HLK versions are new?
    • that HLK will be launched in May 2024 Supports driver certification for Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025. For the following FAQs, the May 2024 release is referred to as the RTM HLK and the October release is referred to as the Refresh HLK.
  • How do I know what version of HLK I have?
    • The distinction between RTM HLK and Refreshed HLK is in the last number of the HLK Studio version 10.1.26100.X.
      • RTM HLK Studio version is 10.1.26100.1.
      • Refresh HLK Studio version is 10.1.26100.X.

  • How do I install the HLK refresh version?
  1. Visit the HLK download page: Windows Hardware Lab Kit | Microsoft Learn
  2. Download the refreshed HLK
  3. Run HLKSetup.exe

Note

      • Before using the same system for an HLK refresh, ensure that the current HLK project is completed.
      • A refreshed HLK cannot be installed on a system that already has an RTM HLK. This applies to both controllers and clients.For both, I would recommend starting with a fresh install of the OS.
  • How do I know if the errata I use have been corrected in the new HLK?
    • A list of corrected Errata can be found below.
  • What should I do if the error I am using doesn’t seem to be fixed in the refreshed HLK?
    • If there are no corrections in the revised list, the exemption can be used for both the RTM HLK and the refreshed HLK.
  • What if the Errata I’m using is marked as fixed, but my tests still throw an error?
  • How do I handle tests that passed in RTM HLK but failed in the refreshed HLK?
  • Will Microsoft update HLK regularly in the future?
    • Yes, Microsoft is moving to this servicing model for HLK, which will maintain overall test quality and reduce reliance on errors.
  • How often can we expect these refresh releases?
    • The current plan is to evaluate releasing the latest HLK every quarter.
  • Does this update apply to both clients and servers?
  • Can I merge the results of the RTM test run and the refreshed test run for submission?
    • No, you must submit RTM or updated HLK.
  • Will the new HLK continue to support merged packages for multiple OS submissions?
