PhD Fellowship in Structural Biology: Helmholtz Munich offers a fully funded PhD Fellowship in Structural Biology at the Alderson Lab of the Institute of Structural Biology. Research area:
The Alderson Lab focuses on understanding how proteins in the heat shock and cell death pathways sense and respond to stress. Research involves an integrative approach using NMR spectroscopy, cryo-EM, and AI-based methods for protein structure prediction.

Location:
Garching, Germany (with home office options)

Eligibility/Qualification:
Exceptional students with a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, molecular biology, pharmacy or structural biology are encouraged to apply. A strong interest in structural biology, NMR and/or intrinsically disordered protein regions as well as demonstrable experience in molecular biology, protein science or structural biology are required. Good written and spoken English skills are also essential.

Job description:
The successful candidate will reconstruct biomolecular complexes in vitro using molecular biology and biochemical techniques, structurally characterize proteins and their complexes using advanced methods such as NMR spectroscopy and cryo-electron microscopy, engage in molecular modeling using AI-based methods for protein structure prediction, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, publish his results in international journals and present his findings at national and international research conferences.
