PhD position in chemical biology: The University of Barcelona offers a fully funded PhD position (4 years) in the field of Chemical Biology, with a focus on bioorganic and bioinorganic chemistry. This position is part of the “Light-Activated Molecules for Bioimaging and Therapeutic Applications” group led by Dr. Vicente Marchan. The research will involve the development of innovative light-activated drugs for bioimaging and therapeutic applications, particularly for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photopharmacology. The successful candidate will work in a state-of-the-art research environment and receive extensive training in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, spectroscopic techniques and chemical biology.

Authorization/Qualification

Job description
The doctoral student is responsible for:

• Synthesis of new drug candidates and their conjugation with tumor-specific molecules such as peptides and antibodies
• Conducting in vitro and in vivo biological evaluations of these compounds
• Participation in the doctoral program in Organic Chemistry at the University of Barcelona
• Participation in interdisciplinary research within the HYPOLIGHT project (PID2023-1461610B-100), funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigacion
• Use of the most modern scientific equipment and facilities of the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB)
