Description of the scholarship:

The DAAD doctoral scholarship offers comprehensive support for international students who want to do a doctorate in Germany. Funding is available either for an individual doctoral project supervised by a university lecturer or for participation in a structured doctoral program. Additional funds are provided for research phases outside Germany, provided that these are essential for the successful completion of the doctorate and do not exceed 25% of the total funding period.

The financing includes:

• Monthly scholarship: 1,300 €
• Health, accident and personal liability insurance
• Travel allowance
• Annual research allowance of 460 euros
• Rent allowance and family allowance (if applicable)
• Support for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses
• Reimbursement of language courses and examination fees

Eligibility:

To be eligible, applicants must:

• You have a master’s degree or, in exceptional cases, a bachelor’s degree.
• You must have completed your studies no more than six years ago before the application deadline.
• You must not have been staying in Germany for longer than 15 months at the time of application.
• Have a good knowledge of German, especially in the artistic subjects, unless the project is carried out in English.
• Special regulations apply to applicants from the fields of human medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry (details at www.daad.de/extrainfo).

• University degree certificates with final grades
• A recent letter of recommendation from a university professor
