Then we have a great opportunity for you to lead, strengthen and develop the strategic communications portfolio of the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre. Effective communication about international humanitarian law (IHL) is more important today than ever.

We are looking for a dynamic personality to take on a leading role in our team at the International Humanitarian Law Centre and contribute to the further development of international humanitarian law and the fight for a fairer and more equal world.

Purpose of the position

Lead, strengthen and develop the strategic communications portfolio of the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre and support the profile building of the Centre in line with Diakonia’s global policies and guidelines as well as Diakonia’s feminist and human rights-based principles and our values ​​of solidarity, justice, courage, commitment and responsibility.

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Head of Communications, you will play a key role in shaping the communications strategy of the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre. Your tasks will include:

  • Always one step ahead: We keep an eye on the latest communication approaches and trends in the field of international humanitarian law and identify gaps and opportunities for innovation.
  • Strategy enhancement: Updating and fine-tuning the Centre’s communications strategy to reflect its recent growth and diverse project portfolio.
  • Strategic Input: Providing input on all relevant Center tools, strategies and positions, both internally and externally, to ensure that our communications efforts are aligned with our core values ​​and goals.
  • Knowledge sharing: Expanding internal knowledge within the program and projects to ensure our team is well informed and equipped to communicate effectively.
  • Networking: Identifying and maintaining relevant networks and partnerships to advance the Center’s goals and expand our reach.
  • Leading the team: Providing strategic and tactical guidance to the Centre’s staff to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver a robust communications approach.
  • Analysis and advice: Analyzing the center’s strategy and making recommendations on investment, marketing and financing opportunities to ensure our sustainability and growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in strategic communications, preferably in the context of international humanitarian law or related areas.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team.
  • A commitment to feminist and human rights-based principles and an agreement with the values ​​of the Diakonie.
  • Creative and innovative thinking with a passion for social justice.
