Nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives in inadequate housing, affecting their health, livelihoods and their children’s education. Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 46 million people around the world improve their housing.

Habitat’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter was established to expand access to adequate and affordable housing through the housing market. The Terwilliger Center works to expand access to innovative and customer-focused services, products and financing to enable households to improve their housing more effectively and efficiently.

Purpose of the consultation

Habitat’s Terwilliger Center is seeking a consultant to provide communications and marketing support to advance program strategy and goals in the Philippines and/or the Southeast Asia region.

In collaboration with the Terwilliger Center’s Director of Communications and relevant program leaders, the consultant develops a communications framework for all program areas to increase the impact of the Center’s programs, raise awareness of key initiatives, and increase brand awareness.

Tasks and services:

• Support media relations: preparing press releases, inviting and managing media participation in events, creating toolkits, monitoring media enquiries. Building and maintaining a network of target audiences and reporters according to priority work areas and cross-cutting issues.
• Graphic Design: Design appropriate branding materials (e.g. spreads, brochures, slide decks, capacity statements, event branding).
• Writing and Editing: Proofread research and reports, create content drafts for new materials, and provide thought leadership opportunities (technical blog, commentary, media pitch) based on program team needs.
• Content Capture: Identify opportunities for new assets, including photography and storytelling, and work closely with the Terwilliger Center Communications Director to capture or lead the capture of such assets.
• Social Media: Deliver content to X/Twitter and LinkedIn, including accompanying graphics, based on program team activities and contributions (e.g. 3/month).
• Contribute to departmental communication updates regarding program milestones.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities and recommend adjustments if necessary.

Contract duration

• The consultancy runs from the contract date until December 31, 2024, with a possible extension depending on performance and budget availability.

Experience and qualifications

• Proven track record and professional experience in communications, marketing, advocacy, campaigns and/or strategic management.
• Proven experience in media and public relations, such as media campaigns, project management, media strategies.
• Proven understanding of the media ecosystem and communication best practices in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
• Knowledge of design software (Adobe Suite, Canva).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Tagalog.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Competence in using digital communication tools and social media platforms.
• Knowledge of developing and using templates in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of market economy systems approaches and experience in working with housing programs and the NGO sector are an advantage.
