The Health NGOs Network (HENNET) was established in 2005 and registered as an NGO in 2007 with the aim of coordinating and networking the CSOs in the health sector. This was done because the stakeholders felt that a common platform was needed for the CSOs working on health-related issues in Kenya to collaborate, share experiences and do advocacy. HENNET has over 112 members in 2023, including both local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs) and research institutions, operating in all 47 counties in Kenya but all focusing on health and health-related issues. The different members have different health-related interests but all share the vision of a healthy Kenyan society.

Overall, purpose of this role

He/she supports the Communication and Media Officer in communication and visibility, animation, dissemination and development of communication tools, information support and external and internal visibility.

Tasks and responsibilities

  1. Support in the implementation of the entire organizational communication plan
  2. Help us write, edit and proofread communications materials, including press releases, fact sheets, policy briefs and reports.
  3. Support in disseminating project-related content through various channels, including social media platforms, newsletters, websites, and targeted outreach efforts.
  4. Monitor and analyze Hennet’s media coverage and identify opportunities for strategic engagement and response.
  5. Support the maintenance and updating of project-specific web content and ensure its accuracy and relevance for the target groups.
  6. Work closely with other program teams to ensure alignment and coherence of your messaging and outreach efforts.
  7. Keep records of media coverage and collect analytics and metrics for social media platforms and website usability.
  8. Maintain a library of communications and marketing resources, including photos, videos, case studies, and social media graphics and visibility materials.
  9. Assist the Program Assistant in writing program reports during program activities.
  10. Any other tasks required by the supervisor within the scope of the position and relevant to the achievement of HENNET’s objectives.

Skills and experience

Basic skills

  • A diploma in any of the following fields: – Public Relations, Mass Media and Communication, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Knowledge of current health and development trends.
  • Experience in developing advocacy IEC materials for social media platforms and public media
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in working languages.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media content management systems and social media platforms, graphic design and publishing software (Photoshop/In-Design)
  • Proven experience in managing media platforms, producing media content and utilizing digital marketing methods to build and maintain online engagement.
  • Experience in planning and organizing social media content for events and activities.
  • Skills and experience in producing and editing photos and videos; good knowledge of visual design, visual graphics and layout development for information materials.
  • Experience working with diverse teams and the ability to collaborate with partners using effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • 2 years of professional experience in a similar position

How to apply

Labor Relations Internal: Interacts regularly with the Communications and Media Officer of the Programme Team. He/she is on an equal footing with the Programme Assistant and Administrative Assistant.

External: Interacts with HENNET members, the Ministry of Health at district and national levels, parliamentarians, civil society organizations, the private sector, community teams, health authorities and other like-minded organizations.
