The purpose of this residency is to provide recipients with the opportunity to focus on their writing, helping them to complete their work or prepare it for submission for future publication. They can write in any genre, including poetry, drama, fiction, narrative non-fiction, graphic novels, biographies, autobiographies, essays or literary criticism. It is located in Otepoti/Dunedin, New Zealand’s UNESCO City of Literature. profit Stay at Robert Lord Writers’ Cottage in North Dunedin, conveniently located within walking distance of the University Book Shop and the University. A six-week residency that follows the University of Otago’s summer semester. The university bookstore has office space and a variety of amenities including internet access, a copier, and a printer. UBS Otago staff will provide you with a discount on book purchases during your stay. While in Dunedin you will have access to the wider community of the University of Otago, City of Literature, Public Libraries and the NZ Society of Authors. Funding Information During your residency period, you will receive a lump sum stipend of $2,000, paid directly into your New Zealand bank account. Qualification criteria For the Emerging Writer Residency, applicants must have one significant work or a small collection of works published in a reputable literary journal, collection, anthology, online equivalent, or, for playwrights, a previous work on stage. Residency recipients are applicants who, in the opinion of the University Book Shop Summer Writer in Residence Advisory Group, have demonstrated through published work or other means that their work would benefit from the residency.
