CFA: 6th Anglo-German Humanities Pioneers Symposium “Affiliation” by info.odysseyx@gmail.com November 6, 2024 written by info.odysseyx@gmail.com November 6, 2024 0 comment 13 views 13 The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is inviting applications from young researchers in a variety of fields for a symposium co-hosted with the British Academy on the broad topic of “belonging.” The symposium will be held in Berlin (Germany) from 7 to 9 May 2025 and aims to promote and build international engagement and collaboration between early-career researchers from Germany and the UK working in a wide range of fields. It is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas across disciplinary and national boundaries, by adopting a format that allows for broad discussion and discussion, and by devoting significant time to this and other networking opportunities. Areas of focus Concepts of belonging, in both legal/material and imaginary/symbolic aspects, interact with people’s identities to shape how individuals, communities and societies understand themselves and interact with the world around them. The concept of belonging allows us to explore the connections between space, place and identity. This symposium seeks to bring a highly interdisciplinary lens to this work, exploring ideas of belonging and identity in relation to physical and ideological borders and boundaries. We will explore how heritage and memory are conceptualized, how the literature on place and origins develops, and the role emotions play in perceptions and notions of belonging. Identity is often defined and reinforced in relation to close others. The symposium will also consider the implications this has for the ways in which communities participate or have participated in internal and external forces. The symposium is expected to include a series of sessions focusing on: Variability in Affiliation nature of affiliation expression of belonging Eligibility Criteria Researchers at any career stage are eligible to apply as long as they: It is headquartered in Germany, Working at a German research institute Those who have earned a doctoral degree within the past 10 years; Fluent in speaking and writing English.
