The Variety Preservation Award will be presented on December 23 (Kisan Diwas) with a total of eight awards, including three awards in each category (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and one consolation prize in two categories (individuals and institutions). Awards will be accompanied by a certificate/citation. Category Awards are given to livestock producers/organizations in the following categories: Individual Breed Preservation Award: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 1 consolation prize for indigenous livestock and poultry breeds registered by the institution. Breed Preservation Award for Institutions (Government Agencies, Breed Associations, NGOs, Gaushalas, etc.): 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and 1 consolation prize for indigenous livestock and poultry breeds registered by the institutions. Qualification criteria Indian individual livestock breeders/communities/institutions who are involved in the conservation of indigenous breeds or sustaining their conservation through income generation, value addition, or breeding services to the society through the breeds or their products are eligible for the award. For the purpose of breed preservation, any individual, community or institution that has been engaged in animal breeding/raising/animal conservation for at least the five years immediately preceding the award year may apply for the award. For the purpose of breed preservation, registered breeder associations/breed associations/government agencies/associations/NGOs/Gaushalas etc. may be considered as institutions. In the Institutional category, “only one application per species” is allowed. Avoid submitting more than one application for the same species. However, an institute may submit different applications for different species. Only livestock and poultry breeds registered with ICAR-NBAGR will be considered for the award. The same individual/community/institution can apply for more than one breed for the award, but one application will be limited to one livestock/poultry breed. Applications mentioning more than one breed for the award will be rejected. However, an applicant can submit more than one application. In one application, only the breed name should be mentioned. Varieties that have won awards in the same category (individual/institution) in the past three years are not eligible for awards. However, varieties that have won awards in the individual category may be considered for the institutional category and vice versa. For more information, please visit: NBAGR.
