Lifting Hands International is looking for a Arts and Leisure Manager Starting in September 2024 in Greece with a minimum commitment of six months.

About Us

Lifting Hands International runs a community center in Serres, a small town about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with over 1,000 refugees in the local camps, regularly distributing relief supplies and offering a range of psychosocial support programs.

Roll profile

The Arts & Recreation program provides recreational activities and classes with a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive community-led approach for and with camp residents. The program consists of an open space for recreational activities and socializing and a schedule of sports, yoga, fitness, art and music classes. The program’s primary participants are adult men and teenage boys, with many community volunteers involved.

Main responsibilities

  • Managing the daily operations of the premises and activities;
  • Safely lead and support a team of visitors and community volunteers and ensure respectful collaboration and communication within the team;
  • Leading weekly Arts & Rec meetings and preparing weekly activities;
  • Providing program introductions, trainings, and bi-weekly individual check-ins for visitors and community volunteers;
  • Supporting the professional and personal development of community volunteers and promoting their leadership skills in classes and activities;
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to develop training and strategies to better support the community volunteer team;
  • Assessing the needs of program participants and community members and involving them in planning activities;
  • Ensuring that the team of visitors and community volunteers have access to educational materials and supporting them in developing new ideas and finding inspiration for their work;
  • Work closely with managers of other programs to ensure that the intersectional needs of different age groups and genders are met;
  • Attend and contribute to weekly coordination and team meetings;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the Arts & Rec program; overseeing overall development in accordance with LHI’s vision plan and adapting structures to current situational needs and requirements;
  • Tracking participation, budget, required investments and changes needed to ensure program quality; Collaborating with other LHI leaders to monitor and evaluate program impact;
  • Escalating security concerns and occasionally collaborating with external stakeholders.
  • Supporting the behavior management of young participants.

Key criteria

  • Minimum term 6 months
  • Quick thinking, proactive, motivated, open-minded, adapts easily to a fast-paced work environment
  • Previous experience teaching yoga, fitness, art, music or sports
  • Confident and strong leadership qualities
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed principles and experience working with vulnerable groups and/or trauma survivors
  • You have excellent communication skills and experience working in a team with members from different backgrounds and across language barriers

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Arabic, Farsi, French and/or Kurdish
  • Potential to stay in the team for 6-12 months
